Starting the Journey
Starting my journey with SparklesANShines on Etsy was both exciting and daunting. I opened the shop, eager to share my handmade bead trees and jewellery with the world, but little did I know it would take seven months to make my first sale. In those early days, I followed Etsy’s advice religiously — ensuring my titles were concise, filling in image alt text, and optimising everything I could without spending on Etsy Ads or any paid add-ons.
Month after month, though, the sales didn’t come. I started to lose hope, especially as I had to pay for the listings, and it was beginning to feel like it might not work out. I was on the verge of closing the store, thinking perhaps it just wasn’t meant to be. Then, on the very day I was ready to walk away, it happened — my first sale!
That small success gave me the motivation to keep going, knowing that perseverance and following the right steps could pay off. It’s been a journey, but one that has taught me so much about patience and the joy of creating things that others appreciate.
The experience reminded me that running a small business, especially one with handmade items, takes time and dedication. It isn’t just about posting your products and expecting instant results; it’s about refining your approach, learning as you go, and having faith in your craft.
Now, every sale feels like a win, and every item I create for my shop, whether it’s a colourful bead tree or a piece of jewellery, carries with it the hard work and hope that started this journey.
